Caroline Wozniacki bashes the officials in the French Open – Tennis News
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, has hit back at the officials of the Roland Garros French Open for their poor decisions during her match against the Estonian number one, Kaia Kanepi. She was playing her third round clash and was in the hunt for her first Grand Slam title but she was denied of another opportunity by the in-form Estonian who won the match in three sets.
One thing is worth mentioning that Wozniacki played extremely well, fighting back into the contest from a set and 1-5 down to prolong the match into three sets. It was a remarkable comeback from the Dane who has struggled to prove her mark this year having slipped to the ninth place in the world in just five months.
Commenting on the official’s decisions in the match, she stated, “It's a disgrace that mistakes like this are made. It wasn't even like, 'Could have been in, and could have been out.' It was clearly out." That clearly shows her frustration and somewhat her discomfort at not being able to meet the class of other players in the Grand Slam tournaments. It was a combination of poor performance plus poor decisions that forced her to speak in that fashion. However, it’s not an appropriate way to comment about anyone.
How can you sit there and be so arrogant?" Wozniacki told Ayala. "Have you gone to school?"
The Dane has recently hired a new coach who is 2002 Australian Open champion, Thomas Johansson, but it seems like nothing is working in her favour at the moment. She needs to regroup and prepare for the grass court season that will feature another Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon and London Olympics. So, this is her chance to utilize the time and practice hard for the upcoming season which will be very difficult especially considering the form of some outstanding top seeds in the tournament like Maria Sharapova, Angelique Kerber, Samantha Stosur, Petra Kvitova and Li Na. All of them are playing at their prime and it will take a lot of toll on Wozniacki to raise her game and beat the in-form players.
