Caroline Wozniacki bestowed with the Diamond ACES Award for 2011 – Tennis News
WTA’s (Women’s Tennis Association) number one tennis star, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark was bestowed with the Diamond ACES Award for the year 2011 on Wednesday. As agile on the tennis court, the Dane tennis super star is equally active in the social field as well and was declared the winner of this year’s prestigious Diamond ACES Award by WTA for her charitable contributions.
The annual Diamond ACES Award is presented to the players who exceed all expectations in promoting the sport of tennis to the fans, media and social communities by their charitable activities. Wozniacki’s off-court activities to promote the sport throughout the current year made her worthy of receiving the award this time.
“Women’s tennis has given me everything I have and I enjoy every opportunity I get to give back to the sport and help to grow and promote it around the world,” expressed the number one tennis player among women after the announcement of the award.
Stacey Allaster, the Chairman and CEO of the WTA, praised Wozniacki’s promotional work, saying, “Not only is Caroline one of the best female athletes on the planet, she is extremely conscious of the power she has to grow women’s tennis around the world. She always makes herself available to our fans, sponsors, and the media and it is because of players like Caroline that women’s tennis’ global fan base is constantly growing.”
The Diamond ACES Award was inaugurated way back in 1995 but the awarding system has completely altered after all these years. It is the fifth time in succession that a new system of evaluation, in which point-weighing is used to tally each player’s off-court social activities, has been used to chose the winner of the award.
Among the other charitable work done by the Dane, the most eminent one seen at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, where she hosted a Kids Clinic and gave lessons to almost 100 children. The world number one in WTA rankings also conducted an awareness campaign at the New Haven Open, educating women about the breast cancer.
After a ravaging earthquake devastated Japan in March this year, Wozniacki delivered a speech in Tokyo on behalf of the WTA players to offer support for the victims of the great natural calamity.
