Caroline Wozniacki bids to take the Wimbledon 2012 Championship title – Tennis News
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, is confident that she will grab a Grand Slam championship title at Wimbledon, starting June 25. She believes that she can remove the tag of no 'Slam wonder' off her.
She is surrounded by million thoughts at the moment; her beloved boyfriend, Rory Mcllory, is prematurely dumped from one of the golf’s most elitist tournament, US Open. She wanted her home country to reach the quarter-final stage
of Euro 2012 but the loss at the hands of the German squad on Sunday night shattered her dreams into pieces. Denmark played extremely well throughout the tournament but couldn’t go through to the next round from the group that is supposedly, the group of death
featuring the three strongest teams in the world along Denmark; Portugal, Holland and Germany.
Wozniacki, who played the final of the US Open 2009, has failed to grab her number one sport at the start of the season. She lost it to the Belarusian tennis ace, Victoria Azarenka, at the end of the Australian Open. However, the
closing ceremony of the Roland Garros French Open witnessed the 25-year-old Russian beauty queen, Maria Sharapova, snatching the number one spot yet another time in her career.
On the other hand, the Dane superstar slipped to world number nine but her impressive performance at the clay court Grand Slam boosted her ranking by two places to number seven. She is just 21-year-old and there is ample time in
her professional career to reclaim her throne but for that she has to prove her worth and grab a Grand Slam championship for sure.
While commenting about Eastbourne, where she plays her next tournament, she stated, “I like Eastbourne. It’s a good place to be ahead of Wimbledon. It’s good to practice on the grass. It is a surface where you really need to be
on your toes. It can so quickly go your way but it can go against you so quickly.”
She further added, “I can win Wimbledon this year, I have to believe. You never know what will happen; there will always be upsets and people you don’t expect in the quarters and the semis. I didn’t see Sara Errani [the 21st seed]
getting to the final of the French Open but she had a really good tournament.”
The test for the Dane starts in the last week of June and she will definitely be fuming in with confidence to perform with the racquet this time around.
