Caroline Wozniacki blasts through Pauline Parmentier to reach the quarter-final – e-Boks Open 2012
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, carried on her belligerent run at home and defeated the unseeded French opponent, Pauline Parmentier, in the second round of the e-Boks Open on Thursday. The top seed defending champion
took just 67 minutes to dump the 58th ranked French in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, to book a spot in the quarter-final round of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International Tour event in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Eyeing for her third successive title win at the e-Boks Open, Wozniacki put up another display of sheer dominance and class to register her 15th victory of the 2012 WTA season. The Dane is now 12-0 in Copenhagen and
her impactful start to this year’s campaign depicts her intensity to complete the hat-trick of champion titles at her home soil. She already defeated Parmentier in Amelia Island, USA, in 2008 and her Thursday’s victory improved her head-to-head lead by 2-0
against the French.
Wozniacki had no troubles at all in the contest and simply outshined Parmentier in every segment of the game to come out as the winner. She spared merely three games for her opponent in the entire matchup and nailed five out of
14 break points en route to victory. Parmentier, on the other hand, utterly failed to even craft a single break opportunity in the contest to finish on the losing side in the end.
"I got more used to the surface compared to the last match and that was definitely a difference," said Wozniacki after winning her 12th straight win at this event, "It was a very different match compared to the last
one. I just enjoy playing in front of the Danish crowd and I'm looking forward to the next match tomorrow. I don't know if I'm the favourite. There are many good players in the draw, and I prefer to take it one match at a time."
The defending champion will face the other unseeded French opponent, Alize Cornet, in the quarter-final round of the e-Boks Open on Friday. Cornet was successful against the Austrian competitor, Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, in gruelling
three sets in the second round draw.
