Caroline Wozniacki breezes past Silvia Soler-Espinosa to enter round three – Family Circle Cup 2013
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, slaughtered the Spanish challenger, Silvia Soler-Espinosa with double breadsticks at the Family Circle Cup 2013 on Wednesday. She penned down a 6-1, 6-1 victory against the Spaniard to power into the third round
at this WTA Premier event taking place in Charleston, United States.
Seeded second in this event, Wozniacki stayed on course to have another title at this clay court event. She conquered this tournament in 2011 and after pocketing this match, the Dane took a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head series against Soler-Espinosa.
The Danish star stated in an on-court interview after stealing the limelight:
"I felt like I served really well today, and returned really well too. Playing your first match of the year on clay, it's always going to be difficult to slide and move unbelievably, but I felt like I did a pretty good job of that out there and I'm pleased
with my work."
Wozniacki thundered into the Family Circle Cup. After Soler-Espinosa held her serve in the second game, the Dane unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and reeled off five games. She eventually pulled out the opener with an impressive 6-1 score line.
Currently ranked 10th in the WTA Premier rankings, Wozniacki kept momentum rolling in the proceeding set. She got the coveted break in the opening game and jumped to a 2-0 lead. After the Spaniard came on the score sheet in the third game, Wozniacki
went berserk again and eventually bagged another breadstick.
Next in queue for Wozniacki is the German star, Andrea Petkovic.
"Petkovic is a good player," Wozniacki reflected about her next match-up. "She has been very unlucky in her injuries and she is obviously a player that plays on a very high level, getting to the Top 10 before. She's dangerous."
The former Top 10, Petkovic made an epic comeback from a break down in both sets and eventually formulating a 7-5, 6-4 score line.
Another former world number one, Venus Williams, will be joining the Danish number one in the round of 16. The fifth seeded Williams rallied past Puerto Rico’s Monica Puig in a three-set thriller to set up a date with Varvara Lepchenko.
