Caroline Wozniacki continues to displease her fans in 2012 – Tennis News
A prominent name of the US Open contenders, Caroline Wozniacki, stooped to a Romanian underdog, Irina-Camelia Begu, in the opening round on the eve of Tuesday. It was terrible news for the Danish tennis fanatics who were eager
to witness their only representative in the US Open women category. The former world number one was restricted with her shot making due to a right knee injury but the straight sets battering 2-6, 2-6.
Gutted Dane stated at the end of the encounter, "You always want to go onto the court and do your best no matter what's happening out there. I tried but I didn't succeed in playing well. I made too many errors. I definitely felt
I couldn't hit through her today like I wanted to. When she had the opportunity she went in and finished off the point. I tried to win out there. It just wasn't enough today."
The right knee injury that erupted in the semi-final of the New Haven Open last week. A reporter queried about that and the 22-year-old Dane stated, "I've had it examined and I've had treatment on it. I think it's a temporary issue.
Hopefully it will get better quickly. Injuries can be frustrating, but it happens to everyone. It's just about moving on from it."
She has never seen the same heights as she did in the previous year. She reached the final of the US Open in 2009 and made two successive semi-final appearances in the 2010 and 2011. However, the terrible year has continued to
displease the Dane as she has not been able to sustain a rhythm in her play.
Wozniacki commenced the season as the number one player in the world but slowly and gradually stumbled apart and almost dropped out of the Top-10 players list but a little cameo kept her firm at the eighth spot. She was expected
to put up a good show at this year’s last Grand Slam Championship but she failed to impress the crowd and opened up the way for more criticism. Let’s hope she returns back to tennis courts with a better run of form.
