Caroline Wozniacki disposes of Urszula Radwanska in the opening round – e-Boks Open 2012
Top seed Caroline Wozniacki powered her way to the second round of the e-Boks Open after beating the unseeded Pole opponent, Urszula Radwanska, on Tuesday. The Dane outclassed her opponent in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-2, to move
into the round of 16 at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International Tour event in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The former world number one kept her clean record at Copenhagen, improving it to 11-0 on her home soil and aiming for her third successive e-Boks Open title this season. Wozniacki took two hours and five minutes of play to take
down the 93rd ranked Pole opponent, leading 2-0 against her in the head-to-head series. She faced some serious resistance from Radwanska in the opening set but was prevailed the tensed moments of the match to lead 1-0. The top seed proved absolutely
devastating in the following set and spared merely two games for her opponent before wrapping up victory in a dominating fashion.
"It was tough playing Urszula because she plays really flat, which works well on this surface, where the ball doesn't bounce very high," Wozniacki said in her post match reviews. "I was able to serve well when I needed to and hope
to serve even better in my next match. The first match is never easy and I am looking to improve with each one here."
Wozniacki delivered 66 per cent of her first serve on target in the matchup, bagging 33 out of 50 points on it and was equally good on her return game as well. She snatched 30 of the 62 return points on her opponent’s serve to
get the better of her and kept winning crucial points to build up pressure. The top seed had 12 break opportunities in the match but only five conversions proved sufficient for her to conclude her victory.
Wozniacki will next face unseeded French competitor, Pauline Parmentier, in the second round battle of the e-Boks Open. Parmentier overwhelmed the Russian qualifier, Anna Chakvetadze, in the opening round brawl and will face the
top seeded Dane on Thursday to fight for a spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
