Caroline Wozniacki dumps Alize Cornet to clear the quarter-final round – e-Boks Open 2012
Two-time defending champion, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, carried on her unbeaten run at home, defeating the 107th ranked French competitor, Alize Cornet, in the quarter-final round of the e-Boks Open on Friday. The
former world number one took just 64 minutes of play to blast past her opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3, to book a berth in the semis of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International Tour event in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It was Wozniacki’s third consecutive over Cornet, giving her a 4-1 lead in the all-time head-to-head series against her. The sixth ranked Dane is now 13-0 at the e-Boks Open, eyeing to claim the coveted title for the third successive
year. She hadn’t dropped a set at this WTA event since the 2010 semi-final and has been powering her way to victories in straight sets. Her current campaign at Copenhagen has been flawless and she has charged into the last four with complete authority.
The 21-year-old faced no real difficulty in the opening set of the match, disposing of Cornet with a bagel to get one up early. The French posed some late resistance in the following set but it was too late for her to recover from
the early damage done by Wozniacki. The top seed defending champion cruised to victory in style, ending the voyage of Cornet at the e-Boks Open.
"I played well. I got a lot of first serves in and I didn't make any unforced errors, which always helps, of course," said Wozniacki after booking a berth in the semi-final draw of the tournament. "Maybe I lost a little focus during
the second set, but that's not unusual when it goes so smoothly in the first."
Wozniacki converted all of her four break opportunities in the contest, whilst Cornet utterly failed to register a single break point in the entire matchup to finish on the losing side. The top seed will take on the unseeded Croatian
contender, Petra Martic, in the semi-final round this weekend. The Dane is 28-11 in the semi-final encounters and will be the hot favourite for winning the Saturday’s brawl against the Croatian.
