Caroline Wozniacki dumps Eleni Daniilidou to clear round one – Roland Garros French Open 2012
World number nine, Caroline Wozniacki, ousted the 29-year-old Grecian, Eleni Daniilidou, in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 to commence the Roland Garros French Open campaign in Paris, France.
It was the fourth meeting between the two players and the Dane was already leading the head-to-head scores by 2-1. It was an easy draw for the 21-year-old Dane who has always struggled in the Grand Slam tournaments.
So, it proved to be an easy route to the next round; probably a good training session for Wozniacki before she crashes in with some hi-fi superstar in the advanced stages.
World number 69, Daniilidou, was in pathetic form having lost eight of her last nine encounters and desperately needed a triumph to break the shackles. However, her draw was one of the toughest considering that Wozniacki lost her
number one spot earlier this year.
On the other hand, the Dane was enjoying a mixed time at the courts. She failed to stamp her authority at the red dirt; lost in the third round of Madrid Open and couldn’t clear the first stage of Rome. She was also in desperate
hunt to find firm footing and register some convincing victories.
The first set was pure class and domination from the Dane who was on top of her game and came out with a purpose. She didn’t lose a single point on her first two serve games and thrashed her rival to take a resounding lead of 4-0.
In the first four games, Daniilidou had just won three points. It clearly shows the domination from the youngster who has been criticized massively for her incapability to dominate the matches at her will.
Wozniacki continued to push her opponent on the back foot; despite squandering three breakpoints in the final game of the set, she didn’t waste a chance to register a bagel and announced her arrival in Paris in emphatic fashion.
In the start of the second set, the Grecian star looked a lot better and forced her competitor to earn points. However, the beauty queen from Denmark was too good for the slight resistance as she gusted away to a lead of 3-1. She
broke serve for the second time on the trot and saved a breakpoint to hold serve.
There was no coming back from that stage for the Grecian who had already surrendered. Another breakthrough in the meantime and the match was over in a flash.
Caroline Wozniacki contests her second round match against the Aussie booming starlet, Jarmila Gajdosova.
