Caroline Wozniacki eases into final of Qatar Ladies Open 2011
World number one Caroline Wozniacki reached the final of the Qatar Ladies Open 2011 by beating Marion Bartoli of France 6-1, 6-1 on Friday.
The Dane had lost her two previous matches against Bartoli. However, Bartoli’s hopes of completing a hat-trick of wins against the best female player in the world soon vanished when Wozniacki established complete control over the contest right from the start.
Wozniacki started the match very aggressively and made her opponent run hard for every point. The Dane smashed powerful winners and hardly allowed Bartoli any space to place her shots, narrowing the angles by coming close to the net often.
Seeded number one at the event, Wozniacki converted 6 out of 8 break points she was presented with and committed only 13 unforced errors as compared to Bartoli’s 23. Wozniacki, who won the Dubai Open title recently, feels that her game is still improving.
“I definitely feel like I’ve got some more power in there, and I’m making the right choices.  I definitely feel that the balls that are coming back are different because I’m hitting the ball better now.  I think so.  I think I’m improving all the time,”
said the 20-year-old Dane.
The French Marion Bartoli on the other hand conceded that she had no chance against the superior force of Wozniacki. In a post match interview, she admitted that the Dane was in top form and hit the ball really hard.
“Well, but, you know, Caroline is No. 1 in the world, so you expect this kind of performance.  So that’s why she’s also there. That’s because she’s not giving you a lot of things, so you have to work really hard for each point.  And even when you work really
hard, she can come up with some great passing shots,” Bartoli said.
The Dane participated in more matches than any other player in 2010 which highlights her top physical condition. Wozniacki, who has bagged thirteen Women Tennis Association career titles, will now take on world number three Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the
final, who defeated Serbian Jelena Jankovic 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in the other semi-final.
