Caroline Wozniacki eyeing to find her rhythm at the Sony Ericsson Open – Tennis Special
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, is looking forward to re-ignite her spark at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012. She was dumped out from the pre-quarters round at the BNP Paribas Open on March 13th, ultimately
failing to defend her second title of the season. As a result, the Dane will move out of top five at the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings.
The Danish number one appeared rusty in her fourth round match against the Serbian tennis ace, Ana Ivanovic and eventually got dumped out from the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. She was defending her title at this event but exited
from the tournament with disappointment.
It was not her day, as the Dane clobbered a better first serve share of 79 per cent as compared to Ivanovic’s 64 per cent and impressively clicked 19 out of 38 points on it. She also found six break chances but capitalised on two
of them. On the other hand, Wozniacki brushed off only four out of nine breakpoints she came across, ultimately suffering a 3-6, 2-6 shock in 70 minutes.
The 21-year-old is looking forward to practice harder and improve her defensive skills. She is also eyeing to avail more points on her first serve share and cash in more break opportunities.
Wozniacki was quoted in a courtside interview after crashing out to Ivanovic, “I need to get back and practice on a few things and hopefully get back stronger for Miami next week. Right now I'm just thinking about Miami, then we'll
see what's going to happen.”
Currently ranked fourth in the WTA rankings, Wozniacki failed to grab a single title this circuit. She lost to the Polish number one, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the quarters at the Apia International Sydney and exited from the final
eight at the Australian Open in January (lost to the defending champion, Kim Clijsters). Adding further to her misery, she fell to Lucie Safarova in the opening round at the Qatar Ladies Open. Wozniacki then cruised to the semi-finals at the Dubai Duty Free
Tennis Championships as the defending champion. However, she bowed out to Julia Goerges in the final-four round before entering the Californian hard courts.
Wozniacki stormed into the Indian Wells WTA event and slew the Russian rising star, Ekaterina Makarova, with a bagel in her opening match. However, she lost her intensity after that and gifted away the opening set against Sweden’s
Sofia Arvidsson. Despite making a comeback against the Swede, the Dane lost her track in the fourth round.
"Sometimes you take it for granted when you're winning," the highly enthusiastic Dane commented. "You do really well for a long period of time, and you actually realize how well when you lose a few matches. You're like, 'Ah, it
actually felt pretty good.' But it's not like it's a disaster. I've been playing pretty consistently. My time will definitely come again."
The Monaco resident is bidding for her 19th WTA career title at this WTA Premier Mandatory event held in Miami, United States.
