Caroline Wozniacki finally showing some form in Seoul – KDB Korea Open 2012
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, has eventually begun to show some glimpses of her vintage form in Seoul. She had a superb start at the KDB Korea Open and is bidding to bag her maiden WTA championship title
of the running season.
The reigning world number 11, Wozniacki, has been struggling throughout the current professional circuit, failing to have any sort of impact on the WTA Tour. Her terrible slump of form has slipped her out of the elite Top-10 women’s
rankings and was riding a 32-18 winning record prior to coming to Seoul. She was expected to rise back to her prime form at Korea Open and her opening round triumph clearly shows her return to form.
Wozniacki registered a thumping 6-1, 6-2, victory over the Dutch underdog, Arantxa Rus, in the opening round brawl. She merely dropped three games in the entire matchup and absolutely devastated her opponent to stamp her authority
over the game. She had a formidable serve game in the competition, delivering 73 per cent of her first serve on target and winning 28 out of 37 points on it. She crafted a total of four break points and converted all of her opportunities, defending all the
three break threats she faced to reign supreme over Rus.
"I definitely played better today than I have for a while," Wozniacki said in her post-match presser. "I've been practicing hard and I'm happy to see the results from that. I'm happy to be through. I'm just taking it one match
at a time. I was No.1 for basically two years but things change - you always go up and down the rankings, I'm still young, so there's still going to be great wins and losses. It's all just part of the game. All I can do is try my best. At the end of the year
you see your ranking, and that's it."
Wozniacki is expected to carry on her winning impetus in her upcoming matches at the Korea Open. The top seeded Dane will face the French qualifier, Caroline Garcia, in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday.
