Caroline Wozniacki gusts away Urszula Radwanska in round two – Kremlin Cup 2012
World number 11, Caroline Wozniacki, scuttled past the 30th ranked Pole star, Urszula Radwanska, in the second round of the Kremlin Cup on Wednesday. She took an hour and 26 minutes to close off the encounter in straight
sets with the scores of 6-1, 6-3.
Wozniacki registered her fourth head-to-head triumph against the 21-year-old Pole; two of them came in the current season that includes the conquest of Wednesday. The first one was contested in e-Boks Sony Ericsson at Copenhagen
and proved a bit more competitive than this battle. The Dane edged the contest at the end with scores of 7-6(4), 6-2.
Wozniacki wasted little time in holding her serve at the start of the match and pounced on her rival with the forehand startling winners down the line to make it 2-0. She lost the following game miserably courtesy to some exquisite
hitting from the Pole, however, did well to win a breakthrough in the fourth game to reinstate the lead. She held her serve in the following game to make it 4-1 in her favour.
Radwanska looked a bit out of touch and probably the jet lag wasn’t over yet. She was feeling dizzy and didn’t fight for the point which was completely uncharacteristic of her. She lost another breakthrough in the sixth game and
couldn’t keep the set alive in the following return game.
The second set didn’t change anything for the Pole especially at the start. She failed to hold serve and lost the fifth game in a row. However, she regrouped and battled extremely hard to win a break back in the following game;
forced the 22-year-old Dane to dig deep and survive three deuces to hold serve which she did. Both players continued to hold serve until the sixth game of the match.
Radwanska was in the touching distance; trailing by just a breakthrough but the onslaught of the Dane extended the gap in the seventh game. The Pole lost a breakpoint and a swap of breakthroughs ended the encounter in favour of
the Dane.
Caroline Wozniacki and Dominika Cibulkova will face each other to contest for the semi-final berth.
