Caroline Wozniacki gutted at a semi-final exit – Rogers Cup 2012
World number eight, Caroline Wozniacki, couldn’t hold on to her lead of one set against the sixth ranked Czech star, Petra Kvitova, and lost the semi-final encounter in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 3-6. It was a disappointing end to the
promising campaign for someone like Wozniacki who is eagerly waiting to prove her worth ever since the start of the season.
The head-to-head scores for both players were locked together at 3-3 and this was the encounter that could have given the Dane and edge over her competitor. However, the former world number one from Denmark couldn’t handle the
second and third round onslaught of her foe and bowed down despite a cracking start to the match.
Wozniacki commented at the end of the match, "I managed to win the first set and then didn't manage to hang onto my lead. Obviously I would have liked to win in two sets after I won the first set, but that didn't happen. You just
need to regroup yourself and go out there and give it your all in the last set - and it just wasn't enough today."
The disappointment of the eight ranked Dane is obvious from the above statement. However, she needs to recognize that she is just 22 years of age and has a lot of seasons at the professional platform to prove her worth. She just
needs to grow few traits of hanging on to emphatic starts; needs to convert them in victories.
Next up for the Dane superstar is the tour of Cincinnati where she will contest in the Western and Southern Open. She will face tough competition from the likes of Agnieszka Radwanska, Serena Williams, Petra Kvitova and Samantha
Stosur but one thing is for sure that Wozniacki is gearing up for a major triumph; maybe it is the title at Cincinnati or the maiden Grand Slam triumph in the year’s final Major showdown at New York, the US Open.
World number six, Petra Kvitova is scheduled to take on the likes of the former French Open Champion, Li Na, in the final showdown on the eve of Monday for the Rogers Cup title.
