Caroline Wozniacki headlines the Sydney International in 2011

The professional tennis player from Denmark, Caroline Wozniacki will take part in the Sydney International as the final tune up event to the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open in January.
The Sydney International Women’s singles tournament will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from January 9-15, for the third occasion in a row.
Currently ranked number one in the South African Airways WTA list, Caroline, played her last tournament of the season at the WTA competition of the champions, where the Dane finished as the winner, beating Kim Clijsters in the
final.
The 20-year-old Dane, who made her debut on the WTA tour back in 2005, achieved her current career high ranking of number one back in October this season. She has so far won a total of twelve WTA single crowns on the tour. Moreover,
the right hander was also a finalist at the United States Open back in 2009 as well as the WTA Tour Champions earlier this season in October.
Caroline started her 2010 campaign by playing at the Australian Open in Melbourne where she was seeded number four to win the title. The Monte Carlo resident, however, couldn’t go beyond the fourth round as she was toppled by Li
Na in straight sets. Despite her round four exit, she jumped to number three in the world.
Seeded second at the Indian Wells, the Dane superstar made her way into the finals, despite missing a set to three contenders on her way. In the title battle, she was thrashed out by Jelena Jankovic in two sets. The final match
score was 6–2, 6–4.
By virtue of this victory, Caroline further improved her rankings to number two in the world. At the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, she couldn’t go beyond the quarterfinal round as the right hander was bundled out at the hands of
Justine Henin in three sets. The final match score was 6–7(5), 6–3, 6–4.
Her next competition was at the Ponte Vedra Beach, where the 1.77 meter tall did well to win the title battle, beating Olga Govortsova in a two setter final. The score line was 6–2, 7–5.
Caroline’s excellent form of run continued for the rest of the season as well, which saw her win titles in the 2010 e-Boks Danish Open, Montreal, Toray Pan Pacific Open, China Open and Sony Ericsson Championship in Doha. The right
hander also reached the semifinal round in the United States Open, Family Circle Cup and the quarterfinals in Warsaw and French Open this season.
The Dane is currently enjoying her holidays after recording her career best season on the tour. Her preparations for the Sydney International in 2011 are likely to start from the mid December.
"I feel that the Sydney International is the best preparation for the Australian Open. All the top players will be competing there in Sydney and because of this I am confident that I will get the matches I need,” reflected the
2009 United States Open runner up Caroline while commenting on her participation on Wednesday.
Apart from Caroline, Samantha Stosur, Kim Clijsters as well as Ana Ivanovic of Serbia will also be playing there in the warm-up to the opening Grand Slam of the season, which begins on January 17.
Craig Watson, who is the director of the tournament, expects seven of the top ten contenders in the world to eventually take part in the Sydney International.
