Caroline Wozniacki is Rory McIlroy’s lucky charm – Tennis Special
Danish beauty, Caroline Wozniacki, was accused for downfall of his boyfriend – the world number one in golf, Rory McIlroy, performance. However, the Irish star silenced critics by crediting Wozniacki for winning the season-ending DP World Tour Championship
in Dubai.
Former world number one in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Wozniacki was once criticised for downfall of his boyfriend’s performance on tour. However, McIlroy proved all critics wrong and hushed naysayers by capturing the trophy at
the season-ending championships and giving all credit to the world number 10 of women’s tennis.
With this victory, the golfing Supremo McIlroy capped the season by shelving five titles regardless of a slow start to the season. His achievements included the USPGA Major title. McIlroy also played a vital role in European team’s triumph at the Ryder Cup.
Mustering his season further, the Irish star signed a £160 million profitable deal with Nike and topped the money lists in both US and the European Tours (bagged $11.95 million).
In the Dubai World Tour Championships, Wozniacki sat by the champ’s side throughout the tournament.
The 23-year-old jubilantly stated in a press conference after winning the title
“What an unbelievable way to end an unbelievable year!!! Couldn't be happier!! Thank you to everyone for their support throughout 2012! #boom”
The Holywood native, who dubbed the couple as Wozzilroy, is having great time with the Danish tennis star. He believes that Wozniacki was the lucky charm for his success and is looking forward to take her in every tournament he plays.
McIlroy stated after his spectacular performance on Sunday against his closest rival, Justin Rose:
“I always win when she is with me. I’ll have to bring her to more tournaments.”
The Irishman and Wozniacki are dating each other since 2nd July, 2011 at David Haye’s fight against Wladmir Klitschko. Both were number one in their respective sports at the time and are currently the sports golden couple.
The 22-year-old Dane started the season ranked number one in the world. However, she got off track and exited from quarter-finals or last four at several tournaments. Adding further to her misery, Wozniacki crashed out form opening rounds at the US Open
and the Wimbledon Championships and fell out from the Top 10.
However, Wozniacki sought her track again towards the end of the season and conquered the Kremlin Cup, a WTA Premier tournament held in Moscow. She stunned top seeded Samantha Stosur in a three-set thriller to capture the title. The Dane then cruised to
final showdown at the Tournament of Champions. She bowed out to Nadia Petrova but cracked the Top 10 again.
