Caroline Wozniacki jumps two places to world number seven – Tennis News
For the first time in the season, the former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, has stepped in the ranking category. She has jumped two places to the seventh spot in the latest edition of the women tennis rankings issued by
the WTA (Women Tennis Association).
She stumbled to the world number nine spot in just five months and was on the verge of dropping out of the Top-10 players list. However, she managed to register a respectable show at the Roland Garros French Open and stunningly
jumped two places. She reached the third round of the tournament where she witnessed a controversial loss to the Estonian 23rd seed, Kaia Kanepi, who later on reached the semi-final stage of the tournament.
Wozniacki registered two thumping triumphs in the opening round; slaughtering the Grecian superstar, Eleni Daniilidou, in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 and repeating a similar onslaught against the Aussie booming starlet, Jarmila Gajdosova,
posting scores of 6-1, 6-4.
She lost the opening set miserably to the Estonian but won the second set tie-breaker to keep the match alive; won three games in the final set but couldn’t concentrate enough to keep her chances alive. She was upset by the controversial
call of the referee which dismantled her confidence. The replay clearly showed that the ball was miles outside the baseline but the referee called it in. Such moments often destroy the whole momentum of the players and the same happened the Dane superstar
who is going to turn 22-year-old In July.
The lift in her ratings might help her regroup and concentrate on the task of reaching back on the top of the world rankings. However, for that she will have to do something she hasn’t been able to do throughout her career; win
a Grand Slam title. She needs to kick off the grass court on high-note so that she can boost her chances of upsetting everyone in Wimbledon and add a Grand Slam title to her tally. However, it is not going to be a straight forward for her. She will have to
go through a lot of in-form players especially the likes of Maria Sharapova, Angelique Kerber, Petra Kvitova and Sara Errani.
