Caroline Wozniacki named Danish player of the year – Tennis News
World No.1, Caroline Wozniacki, has kept her top spot safe this year by performing throughout the year. This is the reason that she has been the selected the Danish tennis player of the year, once again this year. She has been
winning this title since 2007 and now it looks like she is not going to let anyone sneak near that as she is just 21-years-old. She still has a lot of years left in her career and she is already the top ranked player in the world.
Wozniacki was not present at the award ceremony as she was away from home practicing tennis in USA and throughout the year she travels a lot to compete different tournament. So, it is extremely difficult for her to be present at
the award ceremony. While talking to media representatives after knowing about this accomplishment, she said “I am incredibly proud of winning this title once again. It is always special to be recognized for your achievements in your own country."
Before 2007, she has been crowned Danish junior tennis player of the year for consecutive three years since 2003 to 2006. So, it makes it clear that she is the one of the most influential player in Denmark and will stay like that
for foreseeable future.
Despite all the achievements, Danish player has not been able to clinch any Grand Slam title and this has been the biggest disappointment in her career. She still has a lot of time to accomplish that task but it’s an outstanding
achievement for a tennis icon to have stayed in that top spot throughout the year without winning any Grand Slam title.
She was always the favourite to win this title and her compatriots performing in the Davis Cup were the second closest competitors for her so that made it perfectly clear for everyone that Wozniacki was not going to lose her everlasting
award and will hold on to it tight again in 2011.
Danish Tennis Association had no other choice as she is the World No.1 so she had to end up with this award anyway considering the fact that she has held on to her spot. Her game did decline towards the end of the season. Her performance
in year-end finale was not exceptional and she knows that she need to concentrate a bit more on her tennis to make sure that she don’t lose her top spot in 2012 as well.
