Caroline Wozniacki on verge of slipping out of the Top-10 – Tennis News
Despite of not wining a Grand Slam title in her career, Dane beauty queen , Caroline Wozniacki, reined the world number one spot in the WTA Premier Rankings for the almost the entire 2011 season. She couldn’t perform well in the
Major tournaments but kept chipping in with her cameos in the WTA International Tour events to sustain her top spot last season. However, the former world number one is almost on the verge of slipping out of the Top-10 rankings in the next few weeks.
Currently lingering at the number eighth spot in the WTA rankings, Wozniacki is labouring extremely hard to recover from the terrible slump of form she currently is in. She took off the 2012 season as the top ranked women tennis
professional and has kept sinking down the rankings consistently since then. Winner of six WTA championship titles last season is yet to bag her maiden trophy this year. This is the only reason she has slipped down the rankings this far and if her title drought
continues in the next few weeks, she might easily fall out of the Top-10.
The 22-year-old Dane took off the current circuit by suffering quarter-final exits at the Sydney International and the first Grand Slam, Australian Open. Her fall in the Grand Slam Down Under made an opening for other contestants
and Victoria Azarenka won her first Major title to topple Wozniacki from the world number one spot.
By the time she took part in her next tournament in Doha, Wozniacki had already fallen tot eh world number four spot. Her bad patch continued and she failed to defend her titles at in Dubai and Indian Wells Masters, further sinking
to the sixth spot in the WTA ratings. The Dane number one finally showed some hints of form by reaching the semi-final of Miami Masters and final of an event on her home soil, at Copenhagen, but failed to yield any glory.
Her performances at Stuttgart, Madrid and Rome were not convincing at all and she settled at the number eighth spot in the rankings. She was ousted in the third round of the French Open and then suffered a humiliating opening round
exit from the Wimbledon Championships to sustain her Grand Slam drought. Wozniacki had a promising run at the Olympics, reaching the quarter-final but outdone by the eventual champion, Serena Williams, in brutal straight sets.
Wozniacki has the abilities to rule the WTA Premier Rankings, as she did the entire last season, but her sloppy performances these days might not prove good enough to even keep her in the elite Top-10. She must gear up for the
upcoming US Open Championships or otherwise she might fell significantly lower in the rankings.
