Caroline Wozniacki overpowers Anna Tatishvili in round two – Australian Open 2012
Reigning world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, inched a step closer to her career long dream of winning a Grand Slam title with a win over the Georgian, Anna Tatishvili, in straight sets 6-1, 7-6(4). It was a second round contest
in the Australian Open and was played in Melbourne, Australia on Wednesday.
A dominating start from the Dane was encountered in the second half of the match by her rival but it was not good enough to prolong the match to three sets. World number 83, Tatishvili, would be glad by her performance at the court;
she knew that she had trivial chances of winning the match so it was crucial to put up a show that would delight the crowd and make her proud.
First three games of the match were held by the respective serve players. The Dane was looking for the right moment to have a go at her opponent and in the fourth game she found the opening; couple of jaw-dropping winners down
the line earned the first breakthrough for her. She held her serve to take three games lead as the scores were pushed to 4-1.
The confidence of the Georgian was completely dismantled at that stage and her shaky serves were the proof of that. She committed an unforced error that was capitalized by her opponent with two aggressive successful net points.
Wozniacki served for the set and held it to take a lead. The dominating performance was loved by the crowd in the arena.
Spectators were least concerned about the Georgian despair and kept on cheering every point won by their hot favourite tennis ace. 21-years-old Tatishvili started the second set proceedings and first three games were a complete
replica of those in the opening set. Wozniacki decided to have an onslaught and introduced a bit of guile into her game style. She played couple of drop shots that were not picked up by her opponent at all.
Crucial breakthrough in the fourth game was encountered with a reverse successful break serve in the seventh game by Tatishvili. Two serve breaks were exchanged in the next two games that allowed the inferior ranked participant
to level the scores in the tenth game by 5-5. No more break points were seen and tie breaker was enforced to decide the set. Wozniacki with all the experience of playing in such difficult conditions proved a bit tougher and bagged the second set. She moves
into round three with that emphatic win.
