Caroline Wozniacki saves an upset against Sofia Arvidsson in the semi-final – Kremlin Cup 2012
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, dig deep to claim the final berth in Moscow on Saturday. She was up against the 46th ranked Swede, Sofia Arvidsson, in the semi-final of the Kremlin Cup and won the clash
6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4. It was her seventh  head-to-head win against Arvidsson who has just defeated the Dane on a couple of occurrences; one of them being a walkover through retirement.
Wozniacki commented afterwards, “It's a very slow surface so it's hard to finish the points - you try to hit harder and start making mistakes. She has been playing very well this week, beating some very good players, and she has
been playing better and better against me each time we play, too. So I really had to step it up out there. I'm happy to be through to the final and have another match to go.”
In the opening set, the 22-year-old Dane ousted her opponent in the third game to take a lead of 2-1. However, she couldn’t hang on to that lead and lost a breakpoint in the sixth game. She fought back to repost the lead in the
eighth game and rounded of the set with a comfortable serve hold to love.
The second set witnessed a flurry of breakthroughs at either end; eight games were broken in between both players that were shared equally by them. It was a fantastic contest and importantly, the 28-year-old Swede met blow-by-blow
to her rival. She won the tie-breaker round as well and enforced the final set into play.
Both players swapped number of breakpoints in the final set as well. In the first three games, Wozniacki grabbed two holds to make it 2-1 in her favour. From that stage, both players traded breakthroughs until the end. It was a
class untraditional battle that allowed the Dane to reach her 31st career final. She has an emphatic record of 19-11 in her previous 30 final clashes but one thing is worth considerable that she has reached her first premier final since her emphatic
triumph in New Haven, last August.
Caroline Wozniacki and Samantha Stosur will light up the final showdown on Sunday.
