Caroline Wozniacki seeking her lost glory at Korea Open this week – Tennis News
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, is struggling with her form on the WTA Tour but intends to bounce back at the KDB Korea Open this week. The 22-year-old Dane has been fighting hard with her physical fitness during the
last couple of months and is bidding strongly for her maiden WTA title of the season in Seoul.
Dropping out of the elite Top-10 ranking due her dismal run of form, 11th ranked Wozniacki is leading the competitive field at Korea Open. She hasn’t been in her true form throughout the 2012 WTA season and hasn’t been
able to claim a single title this year. She featured merely one final this season on her home soil at Copenhagen but miserably fell to the German number one, Angelique Kerber, in twin sets 6-4, 6-4. She hasn’t gone past the semi-final round in any other following
tournament and carries a 32-18 win-loss record till date.
The Autumn Asian swing has been quite productive for the Danish number one, as she posted some solid performances in Beijing and Tokyo in the past. She certainly desires to repeat her heroics this time round as well but with a
painful knee injury pinching her this time round. Wozniacki had a terrible exit at the US Open Championships last month, falling to the then world number 96, Irina Camelia Begu, in straight sets, 2-6, 2-6. She hasn’t been seen in action since then and it is
anticipated that she will make a strong comeback in Seoul.
With her current form and struggling fitness, it will not be an easy task for Wozniacki to outplay her rivals at Korean Open. The 14th ranked Russian tennis ace, Maria Kirilenko, is seeded at number two in the draw,
with the Estonian number one, Kaia Kanepi, having a third seed entry to the tournament. 18th ranked Russian veteran, Nadia Petrova, comes at the number four seed, whereas the German diva, Julia Goerges, comes next to her in the seeding list.
Other notable seeded players in the tournament include the American veteran Varvara Lepchenko, 28th ranked Czech, Klara Zakopalova, and Ekaterina Makarova of Russia.
