Caroline Wozniacki slays Anastasia Rodionova in the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia
World number one, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, exhibited her top class while dispatching away the 80th ranked Anastasia Rodionova of Australia, in the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, being played at
the Foro Italico in Rome, Italy. In Wednesday night’s matchup, the top seed Dane had no real trouble in wrapping up a straight sets victory at 6-2, 6-0, in just one hour and eleven minutes of play to book a berth in the third round of the $2,050,000 WTA (Women’s
Tennis Association) clay-court tournament.
20-year-old Wozniacki received a bye to the second round of the tournament and took down the Aussie qualifier with the utmost ease. It was the 32nd victory for the Dane in the running WTA season, bringing her one step
closer the quarter-finals AT Rome.
“It took me a while to get into my game but once I did, I played well the rest of the match,” replied Wozniacki in his post match reviews. “The first match of a tournament is always hard so I'm glad to have gotten through it today.”
The world number one appeared totally unplayable in the contest and took down Rodionova convincingly. She broke the Australian five out of seven times, while remained unbroken throughout the contest. Wozniacki’s serve lacked something
to be desired, reaching just 68 per cent but she gathered 32 out of 47 total serve points on it to get the upper hand in the game.
Rodionova had a decent start to in the first set, holding serve in the opening two games before she slumped in the contest. The Australian had four break opportunities in the opener but she was denied by the sheer brilliance of
Wozniacki each time. The Dane had a steady start to the game and held her serve to take the scores to 2-2. The top seed then shifted her gears and launched a series of forays on her opponent, clouting a number of winners down the line. She broke in the fifth
game and then again in the seventh game to seal the opening set at 6-2.
After winning the opener in an assertive manner, the Dane never looked back and kept doing her demolition job with perfection. She stung three consecutive serve breaks to the opponent’s serve and won her 10th straight
game to conclude the contest at 6-0. She moves on to the third round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, where she will face the world number 24, Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium for a place in the quarter-finals. Wickmayer was successful against the 22nd ranked
Ana Ivanovic in the second round 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-3, to meet the top seed in the next round.
