Caroline Wozniacki slays Sesil Karatantcheva in round two - Western and Southern Open 2012
World number eight, Caroline Wozniacki, ousted the 92nd ranked Kazakh qualifier, Sesil Karatantcheva, in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 to reach the third round of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Both players were having their first encounter against one another so it was obvious that there will be no nerves at all at either end.
The 23-year-old Kazakh was expected to play without any fear but she wasn’t allowed to open and play her natural game.
Wozniacki commenced with a tight serve hold that hinted at a tight match-up. However, the Dane did well to break serve after a bit of resistance from her rival and took a lead of 2-0 upfront.
Former world number one continued to stamp her authority and easily bagged the second serve game of the match; helping the scores to 3-0.
Karatantcheva wasn’t bad at all but her luck was out. She saved a breakpoint in the fourth game but saw her opponent cruising away to lead of 4-0 courtesy a lucky net point.
Wozniacki slammed her opponent in the fifth game of the match and bagged another serve hold before allowing her opponent won four consecutive points in the match for the first to escape a bagel.
It was just the breadstick that was allowed by the 22-year-old Dane who won the first set with no pressure at all.
The second set was worse for the Kazakh qualifier. She failed to win a single game and couldn’t even hold her opponent from winning three back-to-back breakpoints.
It was a commanding display from the Dane who has been criticized for her lack of form this season. She was ranked number one in January but stumbled down to nine before managing to climb back to the eighth spot.
The 17th seed Russian superstar, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, will be the next foe for the Dane starlet.
Pavlyuchenkova dumped the gorgeous German, Julia Goerges, in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 to book a date with Wozniacki.
So, considering the level of domination from both players in their second round conquests, it seems to be an enthralling match-up between the two athletes.
