Caroline Wozniacki takes down Agnieszka Radwanska in the semi-final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
World number one Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark defeated the 14th ranked Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the semi-final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, being played at the Porsche Tennis Arena at Stuttgart, Germany
on Saturday. The top seed Dane took one hour and fifty five minutes before dispensing off the Pole opponent in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, to book a berth in the final of the $721,000 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tournament.
The top ranked Dane had to toil a bit in the opening set but once she got hold of the opener, she never looked back at her opponent and raced to her fourth WTA final of the running year. This was 27th win for the Dane
in the running year and the fourth consecutive one against the Pole competitor, extending her all-time head-to-head lead to 4-1 against Radwanska.
“I know Agnieszka very well. We know each other’s games well and we had a lot of good rallies today,” said Wozniacki in her post match reviews, “I’m pleased with the way I played. I really enjoyed myself out there and I think we
played some good tennis.”
Wozniacki’s game lacked something to be desired in the contest, yet she proved too good for Radwanska. The top seed crafted 19 opportunities in the whole matchup but converted just four of those en route to victory, while dropping
her serve twice. Four double faults were reported on Wozniacki’s part and she clinched just 61 per cent of the total serve points. She appeared a bit shaky at the start and was broken early to trail 1-3 in the opener.
The Dane took time to get her eye in the game and then gradually gathered up her pace to rally past her opponent to reach set point 6-5. Wozniacki frittered away four set points before she finally converted the fifth one to bag
the opener at 7-5.
Radwanska failed to pose ample resistance in the following set and let the top seed fly away with the game.  She broke once in the second set but again dropped serve two times to remain at a disadvantage. Wozniacki reached the
match point at 5-3 but again the Pole denied her four times before she submitted the match to her at 3-6 to end her voyage at Stuttgart.
Wozniacki will take on the surprise winner from Germany, Julia Goerges, in the final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Sunday. Goerges upset the world number seven, Samantha Stosur of Australia in the semi-final matchup, defeating
her 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to meet the top seed in the final.
