Caroline Wozniacki through to quarter-finals of 2011 Qatar Ladies Open
Currently ranked number 1 in the world, Caroline Wozniacki, of Denmark got through Russia's, Nadia Petrova, in the second round of the 2011 Qatar Ladies Open, to make a place for herself in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Petrova did not seem to have much to offer as the professional was beaten 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the set to follow to be sent home.
"It's great to start off with a win and continue with my good form after Dubai. Nadia is a very experienced player, who has won before in Qatar, so it was particularly pleasing", stated Wozniacki.
Earlier, Petrova battled it out against Roberta Vinci of Italy. The first round match was brought to a close as Nadia took the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-2 to eliminate her opponent from the tournament.
Furthermore, Wozniacki will be opposed by Flavia Pennetta of Italy in the quarter-finals of their draw. Pennetta made it through to the quarter-finals after having beaten, Lucie Safarova, of the Czech Republic in the second round of the tournament.
Safarova got off to a good start, taking the first set 6-4. However, the second and third set was taken 6-3 and 6-4 by Pennetta.
Safarova defeated Poland's, Agnieszka Radwanska, 7-6 and 6-3 in the first round. Meanwhile, Pennetta got through with China's Zheng Jie beating her 6-2 and 6-2 in straight sets.
Additionally, amongst those to have made it through to the quarter-finals was also qualifier Peng Shuai of China. Shuai defeated number 3 seed, Francesca Schiavone, of Italy 7-5 and 6-3 to make it through to the quarter-finals.
Opposing Peng will be French woman, Marion Bartoli. Bartoli made it through after having beaten Israel Shahar Pe'er 6-1 in the first set and 6-0 in the second set of the second round match played between the two.
Furthermore, Serb Jelena Jankovic also made it to the quarters and will be facing Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic. Alongside, Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova will be going head to head with the no. 2 seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia for a place in the semi-finals
of the 2011 Qatar Ladies Open.
