Caroline Wozniacki tops Caroline Garcia to enter quarters – KDB Korea Open 2012
Former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, got the better of the French qualifier, Caroline Wozniacki, in straight sets at the KDB Korea Open Tennis Championship 2012 on Thursday. She nudged up a 6-2, 6-3 victory to charge into the quarter-finals at this
WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event taking place in Seoul, South Korea.
Seeded top in this event, Wozniacki ruled throughout the clash to carve out the victory in one hour and eight minutes. As a result, the Dane not only edged in the head-to-head series by 1-1 against Garcia and also progressed into the final eight at this
outdoor hard court event.
The Danish number one assertively entered the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center. She quickly bagged her entire serves without facing any trouble and cashed in both break chances to pull out the victory with a 6-2 score line. Wozniacki capitalised on several
unforced errors Garcia committed and ruled throughout the opener.
Currently ranked 11th in the world, Wozniacki carried her rhythm in the following set. She lost her serve once but capitalised on two out of three break chances, ultimately sealing the set by winning six games to three.
On the whole, Wozniacki clobbered an exceptional first serve share of 72 per cent as compared to her rival’s 51 per cent and impressively clicked 29 out of 42 points on it.
Wozniacki is bidding to find her momentum and to get back in Top 10. She fell out of the elite 10 after crashing out to Irina Begu in the opening round at Flushing Meadows, last of the four Grand Slam events held in Corona Park, New York City.
"I was No.1 for basically two years but things change - you always go up and down the rankings," Wozniacki reflected. "I'm still young, so there's still going to be great wins and losses. It's all just part of the game. All I can do is try my best. At the
end of the year you see your ranking, and that's it."
Next in queue for the 22-year-old is the seventh seed, Klara Zakopalova from Czech Republic. The Czech veteran needed one hour and 22 minutes to triumph over Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova with a breadstick.
Ranked 27th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Zakopalova amazingly brushed off one out of three breakpoints she faced and cashed in all five break chances, eventually sealing the deal with a 6-1, 7-6(6) score line.
