Caroline Wozniacki vs Andrea Petkovic – Quarterfinal Preview: US Open 2011
World number one Caroline Wozniacki will be taking on German tennis pro Andrea Petkovic in the quarterfinal of 2011 US Open in New York, United States. It will be a clash between two emerging professionals, who are at the peak
of their game.
Seeded first at the tournament, Wozniacki has been in tremendous form since the start of the year 2011. Having won six Women’s Tennis Association titles already this season, she is becoming more and more dangerous with every passing
tournament on the tour. Although she is yet to win a Grand Slam tournament in her career, she has the mental strength and game to make it all the way.
Wozniacki will be looking to maintain her current level of play for the next few days to lift her first ever Majors trophy. However, self-belief is going to play a key role in the upcoming matches as she takes on other top seeded
players at the tournament such as Serena Williams and Vera Zvonareva. The Dane plays her best tennis on the hard courts and the US Open presents her with an excellent opportunity to change the course of her career.
The 21-year-old made it to the quarterfinals with a superb 6-7, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova. Earlier at the tournament, she eased past Vania King, Arantxa Rus and Nuria Llagostera Vives. Yet to drop a set at 2011
US Open, Wozniacki will be the favourite in her quarterfinal clash against Petkovic. As much as fighting her opponent, she will have to fight her own game to emerge victorious from this encounter.
Andrea Petkovic, Wozniacki’s opponent in the final, has also looked in commanding form at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre. The German has improved her game play considerably to improve her WTA ranking to world
number eleven. Petkovic, surprisingly, made it to the quarterfinals of Australian to start the year with. However, since then she hasn’t looked back as she continued to do well in the Grand Slams.
Petkovic had to work hard to reach the quarterfinal here Flushing Meadows. In the second round play, she was a given tough time by Chinese Jie Zhang. However, she came back from a set deficit to register an incredible victory.
She then crushed Italian Roberta Vinci in the third round with some high quality tennis. Defeating Carla Suarez Navarro with comfort, she booked her place in the last eight.
The two players have met each other only twice on the tour prior to this meeting with head to head record evened at 1-1. In their only meeting on the blue surface at 2011 Miami, Petkovic got the better of Wozniacki in three tight
sets. However if Wozniacki can use her weapons precisely, she should be able to overcome the challenger.
