Caroline Wozniacki vs Jarmila Gajdosova – Third Round Preview: Wimbledon Championships 2011
World number one Caroline Wozniacki will be meeting Australian Jarmila Gajdosova on Saturday in the third round of 2011 Wimbledon Tennis Championships in United Kingdom.
Wozniacki has been in fabulous form since the year 2011 has started. Having won five Women’s Tennis Association titles already this season, she will be feeling very confident about the way things have turned out for her. However
with William sisters also looking in commanding form, she will have to bring more consistency in her game to be able to clinch first Grand Slam trophy of her career. Expressing her views in a post match interview, she said,
“I’m moving well, serving well, I move the ball around well,” she said. “I enjoy grass, I was junior title holder here, I’ve won Eastbourne. I can play very well on it. This is the first tournament I watched growing up. Martina
Hingis was my idol, so for me it is a very special two weeks.”
Claiming her first grass court title of the year at 2011 Copenhagen just a few days ago, the top seeded Belgian booked her third round place with a thumping 6-1, 6-3 victory over French Virginie Razzano. Earlier in her first round
match-up, she eased past Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja.
Her opponent Jarmila Gajdosova made it to the third round after she edged past Andrea Hlavackova in a competitive contest 7-6 (1), 6-3. Defeating Alona Bondarenko in her opening match in straight sets, she is yet to drop a set
at the WTA tournament. The Australian tennis-pro believes that she has what it takes to overcome the world number one player.
"I had Venus last year in the fourth and I was close to that, so why not?" she said.
"I think I'm defending better, especially on grass, and that I can get more balls back. In general I think mentally I'm a bit better, even if I do still get frustrated.
"I will try to go on court and concentrate on every ball. It's grass so anything can happen."
The two players have played each other twice on the tour previously with Wozniacki leading the head to head score 2-0. In their last encounter at 2008 Tokyo Open, Wozniacki earned a straight sets victory over her rival. However
since then Gajdosova has improved her game significantly. She has a powerful forehand and backhand shot which she can use effectively to surprise her opponent.
Wozniacki can play solid baseline play and she also possesses a very deep and impressive serve. Her ability to hit serve aces allows her to win free points at crucial moments. If she can keep doing what she has done so far at the
tournament, she should be able to come out victorious from this clash.
