Caron Butler reiterates his loyalty to Dallas Mavericks – NBA News Update
NBA star Caron Butler has reiterated his loyalty to the current NBA World Champions – Dallas Mavericks. The small forward was part of the Mavs title winning roster last season, in which he spent a lot of time on the sidelines with
injury.
When the NBA lockout ends, Butler will be a free agent and his future has garnered a lot of speculation. As of now, Butler is not sure where he will end up in the next free agency, but he has made sure to express his gratitude
and love towards the side which helped him through his difficult times.
"I love Dallas, what that organization, the fans, what they did for me when I went down and got injured," said Butler in an interview with FOX sports. "They supported me and stood by my side. Winning a championship there and being
part of that there, that's always special.”
Mavs however are in a fix in the free agency. They already have a big pay roll and as many as six players, including the likes of Tyson Chandler, J.J. Barea and DeShawn Stevenson are without a contract. Also the fact that a new
CBA is around the corner with probably tougher rules in the salary cap makes things all the more complicated.
“So I just don't know what it's going to end up like. You got to see how stuff is structured with the new deal, the new collective bargaining agreement." Butler reasoned.
Caron formed part of a very close knit group in Dallas, where a relatively new team found a common cause and became united by their desire to win. That is something Butler appreciates;
"They definitely told me they wanted me back," Butler said. "I'm grateful for the organization. We'll see what happens. I love Dallas. I like a lot of other places. But I really love Dallas."
Therefore, if finances permit, we should expect Caron to be back in Texas with Dirk Nowitzki and all.
However the fact cannot be denied that the forward is a bit of a journeyman. He has been to a number of NBA teams since entering the league. He spent some good time in Los Angeles with the Lakers and also looks back fondly at the
years with the Miami Heat.
It is therefore hard to rule out a move elsewhere, especially if the financial situation becomes more complicated.
