  1. WD-40 will work. You probably have that at home. Spray it in the hole (using the little tube that comes with the can), then plug the hole with wood putty.

  2. I heard eucalptus branches makes a good incest repellent. Kaylee just try chaulking the whole too. Its simple. Ask a salesperson to help you with chaulk types, but any kind should be fine.  No need to use poison, once whole is filled they'll go away.

  3. I do not know about carpenter bees but put Windex in a spray bottle (which you can adjust to a water pistol stream) and nail them with that.  It kills wasps almost instantly(they definitely want to get out of there).  That may be the incentive.   Other than that, paint the wood(or stain it)using oil based products.    I have yet to see a bug that likes that stuff.

  4. Carpenter bees

Carpenter bees do not eat the wood they are digging in, they just are digging a tunnel to make a nest in so treating the wood with poisons will not be effective.   They live on flowers (pollen etc.)  You need to make the wooded area less "habitable" for them by treating them.  And need to use poisons that will work on their kind of anatomy.
