  1. You must have a work visa to work in Australia, and they are restricted to people who have skills, experience and qualifications in an occupation in which workers are in short supply here. The required occupations are listed on the Skilled Occupations List and if your job is not on there, you will not get a work visa - there is no way around this requirement, even with sponsorship. See http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121... (the SOL)

Applicants for independent (non-sponsored) visas must pass a points test. All applicants must meet health and character requirements.

See http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm for all other information.

    EDIT:

If you're between 18 and 30, it's true that you could get a working holiday visa, but if your job isn't on the SOL or the ENSOL (same link), you would still not be able to get a visa that would allow you to stay or bring your family. I make this point again because I can't see anything like carpet fitter/layer on the lists.

  2. hi, im 16 and my family are too looking to ove to australia soon. my dad is going to go out there and work for around 4 months. I think how it works is is that yo must go out there and work for up to 6 months on a work visa, and then u have to apply to stay in the country. Go to www.migrationexpert.com/australia    if you fill in the form on that website then it should tell you wether you qualify for a work visa. Oz is the way to go. Good luck and i wish you the best n the future.

  3. Carper???

Is that someone that complains a lot?

And how exactly (pray tell) does one "fit" a carper?

    Inquiring minds...

PS:  In Australia, we "lay" carpet.  We don't "fit" it.  You poms are a weird mob!  LOL

But here are a couple of websites that may be of interest to you... www.immi.gov.au/immigration.htm  or www.visacorp.com.au

  4. I did what you are thinking of doing.  I came out on a tourist visa for 3 months, liked the place and then migrated here.

You could try a Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-...

or just a Tourist Visa, no working, ETA (Visitor) (Subclass 976)

    http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/...

Many people do migrate here without even visiting though.  Even visiting first doesn't give you a 100% certainty.  It may take a year or so before you really begin to fit in, as a resident.  Holidays are always different.
