Carpet Beetle help!?

We had an exterminator come out today and tell us that we do haev carpet beetles. He said the only way he could treat them is if he comes to our house 6 times over the next year!! We would prefer not to do that becuae we have a child and two cats. Just wondering if anyone has gotten rid of carpet beetles with only one treatment, which is what we would prefer to do. The carpet beetle we have is the black carpet beetle (confirmed by Orkin).

  1. If you want to kill carpet beetles and keep them out, try dusting with boric acid. Boric acid is great stuff. It kills just about any insect that comes into contact with it, yet it's almost completely harmless to humans. I wouldn't eat a spoonful of it to prove my point, but trust me, this is the stuff you want to use if you don't like chemicals. Boric acid is a naturally occurring compound mined in primarily in the Southwest of the U.S.A. The only thing you want to watch out for is the possibility that you might end up bleaching the fabrics you're treating with boric acid. Boric acid makes whites whiter, you know what I'm saying?
