Carpet cleaning...(DIY)?

Question

Has anyone ever rented the carpet cleaning machine ?...how convenient it is...and how long does it takes to clean it yourself.....i'm sure it will be cost saving......any thoughts?....i've never done it before and mine is a town house with 2 bedrooms, living, dining and a stair where i want to clean the carpet......Thanks for you time.

I prefer the RUG DR. Home Depot here rents them.

I rented one about once a year, and Love it!. But you need to have the time and energy to use it, I have found that I get the whole house done in a day, moving furniture and taking little breaks, Its a little hard on the back for constant use. I have two beds,hallway and living room to do. I just bought a cleaner, its a little easier to use, and I don't have to worry about a time frame. Cleaning is very comparable.
