Carpet for my ferret cage?

Question

hello i am getting a ferret in about 2 weeks and I'm getting marshall penthouse and i se its stares are made of plastic and bottom is made of plastic and there is a couple caps ferret might get his toes hurt in so i would like to add some carpet or something on bottoms to keep him safe and help him clime the ladders can some 1 help me thanks so much

this is an excellent Ferret link and will help you with lots of things..

make sure the carpet is NOT the looped fiber kind, because they will snag their nails in it and hurt themselves.. pretty much thats the most important factor

The chance of your ferret snagging it's nails in the carpeting and getting injured while trying to get loose are much higher than your ferret getting stuck in one of the gaps.

The plastic ramps and platforms are generally pretty safe and better than the ones made from wire.

Glad to see you're doing your "homework" before getting the little fert.

i would not put carpet in my ferrets cage because they miss all the time, and it would make it very hard to clean carpet.

This cage is safe.  Do not 'over-analyze' it.  :)

It is actually easier for a ferret to snag a toe nail in carpeting then in the grooves or gaps of the plastic cage.  Carpet will also be a pretty gross breeding ground for germs.  Ferrets are not the cleanest beasts.  lol

If I were you...skip the carpet and don't worry about the ramps.  Put an old sweat shirt or two in the bottom of the cage for when the ferret doesn't feel like using its hammocks.  Make sure to remove the sweatshirt and wash it every few days.
