  1. Tried and proven!  Some fleas rode in on jeans legs and shoes into my home last year.  I frantically tried everything I could think of, but being asthmatic, there were limitations to most commercial products.

I was told to put a bowl of water with Dawn dishwashing liquid in the floor and set a small lamp near it during the night.  I placed this in 3 separate locations.  It worked like a charm!

By the time I realized I had an infestation, it had gotten pretty severe, so it took a little over a week to get it completely under control.  I vacuumed carpet and furniture daily during this time, and the fleas are no more!

I assure you, you won't be disappointed with the results : )

  2. 1.  immediately treat your pets for fleas per your vet (I like Frontline)

    2.  wash anything that can be washed in hot water and dry on high heat (including pillows, blankets, clothes, curtains, etc)

    3.  anything that cant be washed should be sealed in a garbage bag for as long as possible (you can also freeze items if you have room in your freezer or have them dry cleaned)

    4.  large bulky items such as mattresses or couches should be sprayed throughly with a flea removal spray (read label carefully, some are not meant for surfaces that are to be slept on), mattresses should also be flipped

    5.  treat carpet with a flea powder and vacuum, remove vacuum bag, seal in a garbage bag and take outside to your trash can immediately

    - do not forget to vacuum corners, along baseboards and vents as fleas can hide out there

(repeat as many times as necessary until fleas are gone - maybe even multiple times per day - fleas reproduce quickly)

    6.  if all of this isn't working, speak to your vet and consider boarding pets while an exterminator comes to your house to take over, sometimes it's just too bad of a case to handle yourself

  3. Borax soap powder rubbed into the carpet kills the fleas. Be sure to wash your dog directly, and make sure you haven't got a flea problem outside. If it's outside too, use Seven dust outdoors.

The same thing happend to us.

  4. I have an easy, cheap and green way to rid yourself of fleas.  First of all, get some salt, good, old, cheap salt.  Vacuum your carpets really, really well.  When done, dispose of the vacuum bag or empty it outside.  Then take the salt and simply sprinkle it on all your carpets, don't be stingy, let it fly all over the carpets.  Let it sit for a day or two or three, as long as you can stand it.  The fleas will be eating the salt and have no way to get rid of it and die!  It takes about 24-72 hours for this to happen, depending on how strong your fleas are and how many eggs there may also be.  You can repeat it too, if you notice them biting you again, vacuum again, and drop a new load down again.  I learned this from a friend of mine many many years ago, who ran apartment buildings for a living, and learned how to get rid of fleas cheap and easy like in Florida.  I have used it over the years and am amazed how much money people will spend and gas themselves stupid trying to get rid of them instead of doing this.  Works fast enough for me, I mean its NOT INSTANT like a fogger might be, but its worth it to me.  Try it!  You'll like it!  Hope this helps you!  Good luck!

  5. vacumn and spray raid?

  6. There's some sort of powder you have to put down on the carpet for like a week or two, but you have to brush it in good.    Trust me, you'll want to buy the stick with the brush on the end.

  7. My mom used to put lamps on the floor with bowls of water underneath the light. It worked for her; couldn't hurt to try.

  8. Depending on your carpet type, you can use a weak mix of bleach and water (test them before using in an unseen area of the carpet). Mix it up and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the carpet until the carpet is damp. Repeat every few hours for a few days.

You can also try this with other house hold cleaners, using a spray bottle.

This won't be fun on your feet for a while, but a carpet safe method (and pet safe) is to use the spray bottle to spray a salt solution (LOTS of salt) the same way. The salt will cause abrasions on their exoskeletons, and dry them out.

    Hope these help!

Oh! A steam cleaner might also work, you can rent them at some grocery stores around here.

  9. spary it with raid then take the carpet out you need to get a new one

  10. OMG, I own a carpet business & I went through this a couple of yrs ago.

The problem with fleas is they multiply so fast. They feed off of bloos deposits in the carpet & can lay dormant for mo's.

They are attracted by vibration. I tried everything, bombs, home depot spray. I finally went to an exterminator & got this stuff called Conquer. You put it in a spray bottle & spray the entire floor, bed & furniture.

Well worth the investment. Trust me I lived in agony for mo's.

  11. Nothing is quite as annoying or embarrassing as fleas jumping up out of your carpet to bite at your ankles. In addition to the inconvenience of fleas taking up residence in your home, getting rid of them is difficult. Chemical fogs or sprays made to kills fleas are unsafe to humans and all pets. Rid your carpet of fleas naturally without risking your health.

    Things You’ll Need:

    Diatomaceous earth

    Dish detergent

    Salt

    Step1

Treat your dog or cat at the same time that you treat your carpet. Many pet owners have rid pets from fleas by bathing them in Dawn dish detergent.

    Step2

Vacuum thoroughly and often as fleas in various stages of development probably live in your carpet. Either dispose of your vacuum bag in a secured plastic trash bag or add borax or diatomaceous earth (DE) to your vacuum bag to kill fleas.

    Step3

Sprinkle your carpet with salt, which should kill fleas and eggs. Wait 24 hours and then vacuum up.

    Step4

Rid your carpet of fleas in every inch of your carpet, including under and behind furniture.

    Step5

Dust DE directly on carpet for stubborn pests. While DE is generally safe for humans, you still might want to wear eye protection and a dust mask so that you don't breathe in the dust.

    Step6

Steam clean your carpet with a borax and water mixture in a carpet cleaner. The water drowns adult fleas and the borax attaches to the carpet to stop new fleas from maturing. This can be an effective treatment for up to a year.

    Tips :

Other possible treatments for dogs include adding brewer's yeast to their food, which releases an odor that causes fleas to go elsewhere. You can also use a flea comb to remove fleas from Fido and then drown the suckers by dipping the comb in a cup of soapy water.

Consider putting pets on a long-term flea control treatment like Program or Frontline so that your pets don't reinfest your carpets with fleas.

If you believe that fleas have infested your yard, try spreading DE in flea hot spots or pet bedding.

Many veterinarians recommend against using flea collars, which can make pets sick.

  12. There are loads of alternatives in this article...everything from heat traps to granules:

  13. ~~Go to a restaraunt supply (like Smart N Final) and buy some boxes of popcorn salt. Sprinkle your carpet thoroughly and if you want beat it deep into the carpet with a stiff broom. It dehydrates them and they die off quickly . Leave in for 2 weeks, vacuum , then apply again, leave another 2 weeks and you will have gotten rid of them and any eggs that hatch. Works like a charm and the salt is so fine you won't even know it's there!~~
