Carragher Speaks for Joe Cole
Jamie Carragher is a 32-year-old English football player who plays as a defender for Liverpool. He is the vice-captain for the team, and is one of the longest serving players for Liverpool. He has made over six hundred appearances for the club. Recently Carragher supported the presence of Joe Cole in the squad and said that the new transfer from Chelsea has had a lot of influence on ‘The Reds’.
Joe is an English International player and came from Chelsea on a free transfer this season. He was also sent off from the field by a red card shown to him, when he was trying to get the ball from Laurent Koscielny. This was also Cole’s debut with Liverpool ever since he was transferred. Joe was sent off the field in the first half of the game and this left the ten man squad battling it out against “The Gunners.”
The ‘Reds’ actually scored against Arsenal in the first few minutes of the second half and Arsenal came back heavily on them. Taking full advantage of the fact that Liverpool only had ten men left on the field, Arsenal kept pushing them for the goals. However, miraculously ‘The Reds’ did not let any goals through and the game equalizer only came when Reina made a blunder, which resulted in Liverpool’s own goal. Arsenal still could not score after that. Due to the straight red card that Cole got, he will not be playing any of the next three matches, as Liverpool choose not to appeal against the referee’s decision. Although Cole was sent off in the game so early, Carragher praised him for the positive effect he has brought on ‘The Reds’ and the city of Liverpool.
Jamie Carragher commented in an interview that Joe Cole has lifted the whole city of Liverpool; he said that Cole uplift hearts not only in the dressing room but in the whole place. He continued by saying that Joe is staying in the centre of town and is slowly realizing just how big the club is, as he keeps getting wishes from his fans all the time. Jamie even said that Cole is like a god in the city of Liverpool and has got all the Liverpool fans on his side. Carragher went on to say that Joe is the type of player that others love playing with. The English defender commented that he found Cole to be competitive and sportsmanlike in Europe with Stevie and Torres. He finished by saying that Fernando Torres is normally used to Stevie giving him the ball, so he could score, and now he will have Stevie and Joe, making Joe the extra strength that Liverpool did not have last season. He also told the media how excited Cole was about making his Premier League Debut; playing for Liverpool for the first time in their home ground ‘Ainfield’ is really what the player is looking forward too.
Carragher expressed his disappointment on Cole receiving a red card that ended his first match with Liverpool way too early. Before the match started, Joe was talking about how big this match was for him, and he is really up for it as he has been playing in the World Cup and the Chelsea matches. The defender said that he was just disappointed at Cole’s fate, as that tackle was an accident and a common move to get the ball. He said that if the incident had to be noted as a card foul then it was nothing more than a yellow.
Joe Cole was signed in by a clever move from the new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson. He convinced the Reds captain and vice captain Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. He later on credited both of them that it was because of these players that Joes signing had taken place.
Hodgson said that Joe, the former Chelsea man will be the person that will help the team rejuvenate from their dismissive campaign and claim their former glory.
