Carragher believes Torres’ departure was for the best
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 insists that Fernando Torres’ departure from Anfield was good for the club. Carragher believes that it if the Spaniard was not committed to the Liverpool cause, it was probably best for him to move elsewhere.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 sealed his move to English champions Chelsea in the final hours of the January transfer window. Many Liverpool fans have labelled Torres a traitor; some going so far as to burn replica shirts bearing his name. However, Reds defender Jamie
Carragher has urged Liverpool supporters to think about all that the Spaniard has done for the club.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international said, “Whether people agree with how he's gone, supporters can't deny he was an absolutely fantastic player for Liverpool. His goals record was up there with the greats - (Ian) Rush, (John) Aldridge, (Robbie) Fowler, (Michael) Owen.”
Still, Carragher believes that Torres’ departure is in the best interests of the club. He said, “I think for us it was probably better that Fernando moved on, if he didn't 100 percent want to be here or it was going to happen in the summer. And it's probably
better for everyone all round.”
Carragher had been sidelined for two months after undergoing an operation on his shoulder, but the defender looks set to make his return in time to face his old team-mate. Liverpool face Chelsea on Sunday, 6th February, a match in which Torres
will be making his debut for the Blues.
However, Carragher claims that the encounter will not be about Fernando Torres. Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll joined Liverpool during the January transfer window, and Carragher believes that both players are more than capable of filling the void left by Torres’
departure.
Liverpool currently lie in seventh place in the Barclays Premier League table. A win over rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 will be significant step for the Reds in their bid to secure a Champions League spot. Let’s see what happens when the two sides clash on 6th February
(Sunday) at Stamford Bridge.
