Liverpool’s seasoned defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 revealed that Champions League was his favourite club tournament, and termed the Camp Nou and the Bernabeu stadiums as the best in the world.
The English International, second in the Merseyside club’s list in terms of number of appearances with 699 caps, was a part of the Reds Champions League winning team in 2005, and was named the club’s Player of the Season during the same year. The defender
also featured in another final of the coveted European event two years later, which the Reds went on to lose to AC Milan.
Even though the 34-year old has won multiple laurels with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, having claimed FA Cup triumphs in 2001 and 2006 and the League Cup on three occasions, he mentioned that the Champions League was his favourite club competition. He opined that it was the
biggest and toughest competition in Europe, and the fact that its trophy has not changed for such a long time adds a classical touch to its nature.
He told the reporters in an interview, “It's the biggest prize you can win, it looks the best and feels great when you're picking it up. It's unique, with its big ears…The fact that it's been the same trophy for so long also makes it special. It hasn't changed.”
So far, Carragher has made 139 appearances for Liverpool in European contests, which is a club record.
When asked about his favourite stadium in Europe, the defender let out his liking for Bernabeu and Camp Nou stadiums and also had a high opinion of San Siro, as he made his 100th European appearance in the historic Milan arena.
He added, “I used to always say the Nou Camp. I've been lucky enough to play at the Bernabeu and the San Siro too. It's difficult to separate them. I think I played my 100th European game in the San Siro.”
He also went on to reveal in the interview that he was once asked by his former manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier to play as a goalkeeper in 1999 when Sander Westerveld got sent off. Even though he refused to take up the duty, he mentioned that he later regretted
his decision, since it was the only position that he had not played in during his career.
