Carribean Series to be played at new Isidoro stadium – MLB News
As the Caribbean Series builds up for some exciting baseball, the newly constructed Isidoro Stadium will be playing to host to the exciting games.
The stadium is the home of the Los Indios de Mayaguez of the Puerto Rican professional League and has recently undergone an update at the cost of close to $48 million. This update has brought the stadium up to code and has been certified by Major League
Baseball. In essence, even MLB games can be played if need be.
Isidoro stadium has received a new dugout, scoreboard and concourse areas. Also new areas for the journalists and updated stands have been constructed for the spectators. This is definitely a good move on the part of the officials to attract more people
to the stadium to enjoy baseball.
"For too long this facility needed not only repairs, but it needed a new stadium to be constructed," Caribbean Confederation president Juan Francisco Puello said. "The truth is, what we have witnessed here in Mayaguez is very satisfying, because they have
not only helped promote the people of Central America last summer, they have also helped raise the value of the Caribbean Series."
After the successful Central American Games last summer, the stadium proved itself suitable for the Caribbean Series. The review from the fans and teams has been positive and officials are looking at a success story after the upgrades were put in place.
This is a positive sign as baseball is very popular in Central America and new stadiums or at least upgrades to previous facilities can provide fans with the opportunity to go to the ballpark and enjoy themselves. Also, as the stadium is MLB certified the
possibilities of having big name American teams come and put on exhibition games to attract fans is a real possibility.
During February 2-7, the stadium will be host to the 2011 Caribbean Series where top teams from Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and various parts of the Caribbean will take part in the contest. It is a positive achievement to upgrade the
stadium and promote the sport of baseball in the area.
