The Manchester United midfielder has hinted that he might reconsider his decision to snub the National team.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282, although a regular at Old Trafford, has failed to cement a berth in the Three Lions’ line-up after failing to impress the managers that have come and gone.
While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757 in 2010, the play-maker had no chance to make his mark or prove his abilities to the tactician. And after the Italian’s departure from the hot seat, on came Roy Hodgson who also looked to include him
in the squad, but without any real chance of game time.
So, thus before the European Championships this summer, Carrick announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy for a berth in the squad and instead would take some time off before focusing on his domestic career in Manchester.
Although the decision seems drastic, it is more than justified by what the player has experienced within in the National team, as he has been sidelined for most of the International tournaments.
Having played an integral part in United’s success over the years, he should have been England’s first choice name in the centre of the park and despite not being enough chances, he still reiterated his desire to play for his nation once again but in a more
regular role that is.
"I've had no contact from Roy Hodgson, so it would be wrong of me at this stage to make a decision either way. But I would consider it, definitely."
"I didn't kick the door down and say: 'You've got to play me or I'll leave. It wasn't a case of that at all. It was more that if I wasn't going to play, I'd rather not go. During the World Cup I never featured and I was never really close to playing. That
was a hard time. I just thought if it was going to be the same scenario again, I'd rather let someone else go in my place,” he said.
After enjoying his summer break, Carrick is currently on tour with the Red Devils in preparation for the daunting campaign that lies ahead.
