Continuing, he added that West Ham played with a direct approach and opted to utilize Carroll’s height, but Smalling and Evans did well to neutralize that threat and kept him from making the score sheet.
"A clean sheet is the biggest plus that we can take from tonight. They pumped a lot of balls into the box, asked questions and made us defend. Our two centre halves were terrific,” Carrick was quoted as saying while speaking to the media.
