Andy Carroll, who plays as a striker for both England and Liverpool, indicated that his remarkable late run for Liverpool in the previous season had helped him regain his confidence, and he was now in a better shape ahead of the European Championships.
The former Newcastle United player was at the receiving end of some harsh criticism for failing to deliver after his record 35 million pounds move to Anfield. However, he eventually shaped the opinion of the fans and the media in his favour following his
notable show at the death of the season.
After being named by Roy Hodgson in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749’s 23-man contingent for Euro 2012, the striker vindicated his manager’s decision, playing an important hand in the Three Lions 1-0 win against Norway on Saturday.
Carroll mentioned that having played the leading role upfront for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 recently had boosted his confidence and he has now started to play more freely and with a renewed belief.
He told the reporters, “Now I’ve got a chance to show what I’m about. The fee didn’t bother me.”
“But finally I did get a run in the side towards the end of the season. I did well, got my confidence up and now I’m here.”
The 23-year old pointed out that even though he had at times performed well during his early days at Anfield, he struggled to remain consistent. However, he felt that he was more involved in the matches now than before and needed a good run of games to get
back on track.
The towering striker paired up with Ashley Young upfront in the friendly game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974, and assisted the Manchester United player into scoring the deciding goal of the game.
Carroll indicated that his side took complete control of the match after grabbing an early lead and they are in with a good chance of going all the way this time around in the European Championships.
He added, “We scored early then kept the lead well. We’ve got a good team and loads of quality players but I gave it my best shot and we’ll see when it comes round.”
He went on to say that he fits well in his manager’s plan of playing a tall striker upfront and expressed his delight on being named in the squad.
