http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker Andy Carroll went on to reveal that his early troubles at Anfield owed to the fact that he came injured from Newcastle United, and mentioned that the comments and taunts thrown at him for failing to justify his price tag had never
fazed him.
The 23-year old joined the Merseyside club in January last year from Newcastle for a titanic 35 million pounds transfer fee. However, since then he failed to make a significant impact at Liverpool, scoring just 2 goals during his first 6 months at the club.
With questions already being raised over the wisdom of his lavish transfer fee at the start of the 2011/12 season, the English International failed to silence his critics for a major portion of the term, managing just 9 scalps in the entire season.
However the striker, who has been in red hot form lately, linked his early struggles with fitness problem and pointed out that he started performing well for the team after getting first team action.
He told the club’s official website, “I came into Liverpool when injured and it was hard for me to get my fitness back.”
“I know what I'm about and, as soon as I got my fitness up, I've started to show it.”
Carroll, who earlier got an international call up after being named in England’s 23-man party for the forthcoming Euro 2012, was at times unplayable in the closes stages of the previous season. He was voted as Liverpool’s Man of the Match by the fans on
four consecutive games during the Reds run-in.
The sturdy striker revealed that he has finally aquatinted himself to the playing conditions at Anfield, and he was never bothered by all the critical talk surrounding his mammoth transfer fee.
He continued, “The price tag meant nothing to me. I just signed for a new club and it was hard to fit in straight away.”
“Towards the end of the season, I got a run of games and did well - and now I'm here. Training and playing gets your confidence up, certainly after a good game, and I carried on from there.”
