Former Liverpool manager, Graeme Souness, has praised the turnaround in Andy Carroll’s performances and believes that the Reds’ chances of success next season depend on the striker and his partnership with Luis Suarez.
Liverpool have scored the same number of goals at home as they did in their lowest scoring home campaign, many years ago. The lack of potency upfront has left the club in mid-table and one position lower than their bitter rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019.
The club’s home form has been agonising for many fans as the side have drawn a vast majority of their matches at Anfield. There have been few goals contributed by the midfield as well with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 and Charlie Adam not contributing
much in terms of finding the back of the opposition net.
However, Andy Carroll seems a player transformed since his visit to St. James’s Park when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 took on Newcastle United. The player has been hungry for the ball and putting in the kind of performances that has had everyone sit up and take notice.
Souness sees Liverpool building on that next season and believes the key would be the Suarez-Carroll partnership upfront. He said, “If Carroll and Suarez can strike up a formidable partnership, that could get you 40 goals a season. And then if the midfielders
chip in, they could be amongst the trophies."
Suarez is currently Liverpool’s top scorer with 11 goals this campaign, while he also holds the record for the most posts hit this season as well. Meanwhile, Carroll has also been in a decent run of form of late scoring against Blackburn, Everton and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786
in recent matches.
Souness continued, "With the right service, he could cause havoc against most people. If you get the right ball into the box defenders will panic because they take their eye off the ball and wonder where he is.”
The former Liverpool manager also highlighted how Carroll could benefit from the presence of current Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, “If he can learn that (better positioning), which he can from one of the best strikers ever in Kenny Dalglish, he will
cause anyone problems.”
