Carrots?has any1 noticed how they are turning black much quicker now?

I put them either on veg rack or in fridge drawer and by the 2nd day thet start changing,even when i buy very fresh?

Line the vegetable drawer at the bottom of the fridge with a thick layer of absorbant kitchen paper. This will keep the carrots fresher for a much longer time. Make sure the carrots are dry before putting them in the fridge, especially if you buy them in plastic bags. Check on the paper once or twice per week. If it's damp then line it with dry paper and you can just dry out the old paper and use it again next time. No need to throw it away each time. Carrots give off a lot of moisture in the fridge and it's important to keep them dry. If you are buying really fresh carrots with the greenery uncut then leave it on until use. they will keep longer this way.

Maybe there are bacteria on them or a fungus, try washing them and then putting them away dry.  Better still grow some on an allotment.

I think there is problem with  a lot of the 'fresh' food that we buy now.  It has either been irradiated, or put into chillers for transportation, and when it reaches normal temperature it goes off very quickly

It's not just carrots but soft fruit like nectarines etc.  You can buy them one day and they are like bullets, then the next day they are growing a fur coat!

Try your local farmers market.  At least it is just like your own home produce.

are you saying that sometimes you don't buy them fresh? I have never had a problem , tho we tend to keep ours in a tray at the bottom of the fridge
