Carrying alcohol on plane?

Are there other airlines other than British Airways that allow you to carry eg. bottles of rum, wine etc in your main luggage? I know American Airlines don't allow this and I expect this from all American ones. Planning on finding cheap flights to Jamaica from Manchester UK next year.

  1. You can carry liquids in your checked-in baggage , i don't see any airlines that restrict  that.. you may not want to do that tho because of the way they handle the bags :)

You are NOT allowed to take any liquids in the hand baggage over @ 100ml , the limit varies depeding on the location. I've had to drink up baby formula too a couple of times so as to take empty bottles :( and every time it was in London. In US they just asked me to taste it in from of them and then they were okay with the milk bottles.

No idea about alcohol bought at the airport Duty Free stores or on the plane! i mean carrying them to your connecting flights.

  2. You can if it's bought in duty free, check with the cashier though.

  3. my boss flew back from Malaga last week on BA and had two bottles of wine taken off him at the airport. So I would say no...no bottles.

  4. After the major incident of the war trade center, security is tight this time of year and rules are being strictly enforced. You may not under any circumstances carry on board any alcohol what so ever. You can however have alcohol in checked bagages. You may also purchase alcohol on the plane at all times. Please be extremely cautious to what you bring on the plane.

  5. you can carry anythink from UK in your main luggage, alcohol isnt on the banned list.

you can not take it however in your hand luggage.

but on the way back is a diffrent story. some might not let you and some will. so i'm not sure. but i do know you can take from UK.

  6. All airlines allow you to carry alcohol on board. But if you travelling internationally, you will only be allowed to transport a certain amount through customs.

  7. Alcoholic or wet substance have the chance of breaking inside of your check-in bag, it is not recommended. As for your carry-on, not sure

****Just to be clear, Ididn't say  " you can't " I just said it is not recommended. I seen an airline show where a guy had wine in his suitcase and it broke all over  =) ****

  8. You are wrong about American Airlines - see their baggage restrictions in the link below.  They, like all american air lines, allow this.

That is checked luggage (I suspect Jude's boss either had 140 proof or above, or was carrying it in hand luggage.)

If your luggage is checked, you can carry wine and such - Even American Airlines allows up to 5 liters.  Alcohol over 140 proof is not allowed - because it is combustable - on any flight to or from the US.  That's a safety issue, not an airline issue.  Note that open bottles are NEVER allowed, only sealed ones.

I've carried alcohol (mostly wine) on AA, United, Northwest, Delta, as well as a number of European Airlines and Air Canada.  Never had a problem, never had breakage.

The Customs limitation is 1 bottle per person, but that is a tax limitation, not a true prohibition.  My husband and I have regularly bring back a case of wine or several bottles of alcohol from abroad with no problems.  You need to declare it when you go through customs, and you need to be prepared to pay a small tax (5% I think) on the purchase price (keep your receipts).  Note I have NEVER been asked to provide receipts.
