  1. I am pretty sure that each county/city has a standard that states something like a blade cannot be bigger than * inches. I also know that some cities consider something as simple as a pocket knife harboring a concealed weapon. In order for you to be sure, you should probably check with your cities laws.

  2. No where are swords legal. And in order to carry a gun, concealed you need a special permit.

  3. A sword is a weapon and so is a gun. It is illegal to carry any sort of weapon in public unless you are in a war zone. A martial artist so be able to defend themselves with their fist.

  4. I agree - as a fellow swordsman, I believe that if guns are allowed to be carried - concealed, none the less - that a trained swordsman should be able to wear their katana at their hip.

However, it's illegal. My advice? Unless you're a prodigy, at your age you shouldn't be carrying a shinken anyway. Especially if you've been trained in the states.

    Get a bokuto.

  5. Just carry a bokken if you NEED something

  6. Not anywhere in the world except maybe by primitives who live in areas where the only law is tribal law and even they only carry weapons when on the hunt for food.

In FRANCE certain individuals can get a permit to carry a sword cane and one of the requirements is needing a cane to get around in the 1st place meaning old and being at the top of the social order.

  7. It is illegal to carry a blade longer than 6inches on your person as law of the federal government. If caught you could face a class A felony.  Minimal 5 years if prosecuted.  Guns are in the constitution no where in there does it say I have the right to carry a samurai sword.  Plus if you came up to me and tried to defend yourself with a sword I would just shoot you. LOL.  Learn to defend yourself with out a weapon oh Ninja warrior.  Use it for self defense or as a scare tactic and show off. If your in to martial arts than you should know that its a bad idea anyway.  If your getting picked on and need to use a sword you need to seek better help like make a friend that's bigger than the picker on or do what I did MMA training after you arm bar or RNC a person no one will mess with you.  Just think before you decide to slice and dice.

  8. I am also a weapons user.  I prefer the Japanese Katana myself.  I don't see many other sword practitioners on this site, so you are a relief.

Anyway, I am pretty sure that in most states, carrying a sword for self-defense is illegal.  Though you can get a concealed blade license, I doubt that covers a sword, especially, as in my case, one that is 40 inches long like my Katana.

The truth is, swords and knifes still scare people more than guns while many people, even those who are not martial artists like you and I, will freeze up when confronted with a knife, even more so with a sword.  This is because they are afraid of grabbing it, as a flick of the attacker's wrist can cut off a finger or hand.  Where as with a gun, you can more assuredly grapple it away safely because it has a linear danger zone, as opposed to a knife and blade, that have limitless ways in which to cause harm.  I would love to be able to carry one myself for self-defense.  The thing is, swords do not "go off" unexpectedly.  Just saying...
