Ok this is going to be quick. My friend and I got into an argument about cars and Motorcycles. I said that Motorcycles are fast but not nearly as fast as cars he argued back. So I ask you guys this. If the fastest car raced the fastest bike on a straight race who would win...basically im asking is thier a bike out thier cant be beat by a car? heres the catch...They have to be stock right out of the box just like you buy. Its not a quarter mile just a street and they have to be production cars not a car/ bike that was made in limited amounts. So is thier a Motorcycle they cant be beat by car?

  1. Yes!

  2. Car

  3. I doubt the fastest bike could out run a stock SSC Ultimate Aero TT.  Its the fastest production car in the world.

  4. The question really is, is there a car that can beat a motorcycle?  Given a long enough road, some of the fastest of the fast cars could beat a motorcycle due to top speed... and in a few cases, the fastest of the fastest cars could be slightly faster than the slowest of the slow motorcycles.

But in a real test, the motorcycle will win.  Motorcycles have very little mass to move, which make them much faster off the line.  The car's advantage will be in aerodynamic efficiency as motorcycles are very unaerodynamic shapes.  So, as speeds increase, the motorcycle will spend more and more of it's power to overcome wind resistance, while the car will do better... this will generally be reflected in top speed... so as long as there is enough road to get over 150mph or so, and for the car to catch up to the motorcycle for all the ground lost up until that point, it could win... but most races would be long over by that distance.

If you go for purpose built cars, a top fuel dragster can enjoy an advantage over drag bikes due to larger engines and more rear wheel traction.  And a sports prototype car or F1 car would be quicker than something like a MotoGP racer do to the car's ability to generate massive amounts of downforce.

All other situations though... it's the bike!

EDIT - Since Willow Springs has been brought up (great track)... but the numbers are way off.  AMA Superbikes used to run there, and their record is in the very low 1:19 range, which is faster than the Viper!  For that matter, and old Porsche 911 set up for Toyo Cup should do better than a 1:33 (although probably by just a second or two).

  5. It would depend over what distance.

  6. well the best bike i think is a hayabusa. but com on now my brothers 2008 ford gt. would whip any bikes ***. so cars FOSHO!!!! plus +++++ bikes put u at a higher risk in accidents one false move or a glitch on the track ur dead.. common sence lol

    ok

    LOVES

  7. Way back in 1996, Cycle World magazine ran a head to head competition between a Dodge Viper GTS and a Yamaha YZF1000R.  (December 1996 issue) In almost every way except 1/4 mile passes, the Viper beat the Yamaha. Simple science, the heavier car has more downforce and rubber meeting the pavement. Motorcycles will out accelerate a car all day long, but on a race track, the car will beat the bike. Best lap times at Willow Springs Raceway were: Viper 1'33.8", Yamaha 1'36.3"
