Question:

Cars from Police auctions - good deal or not? What about ex-police cars?

I'm going to an auction tomorrow that has city-owned vehicles for sale - most of them are former law enforcement vehicles. I'm interested in the 2001 Impala, but was told by my friend that most of the police cars have no stereos, the back power windows are disabled, etc. Has anyone ever bought an ex-police car? Also, i've heard conflicting opinions as to whether or not they'd be in BETTER or WORSE shape than a regular car...any help?

  1. I purchased an ex-cop car. It's been very exciting driving that around. Love it! But....

Be prepared to get glared at all the time! I have a 2002 Crown Victoria for $3k and 83k miles. It has a standard radio. The radio sometimes works. Of course, no navigation option.

Yes, it's in worse condition than a regular car. Just talked to a cop at Subway, he told me that by the time they sell the cars, they're in really bad condition. It's your call. It's a great car to have during high school and college.

As for cars at a police auctions, it all depends on the car. if you have any more questions about used cars, there's a Q and A in autobrag.com

  2. Visit This Site Right Now!!

    http://www.seized-cars.net

They are police and seized car auctions specialist.

They list all your local auction dates and remind

you via email if up coming events in your area.

You can touch smell and see it before you buy it. you can do online sealed bids they do offer

a service that send and auto tech out if out of your area. best best.

  3. It's like any car, "buyer beware". Keep in mind however, that those kinds of cars have "municipal titles" which automatically make them worth less money. Similar to a car with a salvage title. Just don't pay to much, typically, they would be worth at least half of a normal vehicle.

  4. yes

alot of miles but it's probably had pretty good maintnance

  5. the actual police cars are in pretty bad shape.  some still have the plastic back seats in them, the suspension is shot the have 1000,000 plus miles on it.  the cars seized and sold at police auctions are usually good deals.  usually you can go the day before to check out the cars so you havean idea of what you want to bid on.

  6. In general, they are in worse shape than a regular car and have excessive mileage on them. If you still want to buy one from there remember to take a mechanic with you because most of these cars are sold in as-is condition.
